Kochi LNG terminal to change the economics of Kerala

It is not power generation or the existing industry which will be beneficial. “Kochi city will have the first piped gas available for the house holds in the state,” pointed out Dr Bina, Ernakulam district collector. ” Yes, a couple of issues happened at the Petronet LNG work site, like labour problem. But it was not as projected by the media. The local administration had taken that extra mile to make things progress smoothly,” she added.

The state in a move to attract more investment to the state has gone a step further ahead by announcing a industrial corridor. “The state is looking at developing an industrial corridor along the LNG pipeline from Kochi to Palakkad. The pipelines passes through three districts before it gets diverted to Tamil Nadu. And Palakkad is one district in the state we have land available for possible acquisition for industrial purpose,” said industrial minister Elamaram Kareem.

The pipeline from Kochi splits into two once it reaches Shornur. While the main pipeline heads to Mangalore covering the northern parts of the state, one line moves to Tamil Nadu. This line will be catering to the textile town of Coimbatore and steel town of Salem. This Kochi line eventually will get connected to the Dhabol line to form the national gas grid.
